MOSFELLSBÆR, Iceland / ARNHEM, Netherlands — PROCEON ehf, a seafood technology company based in Iceland, and QING Food Automation, a Dutch specialist in AI-driven food automation, have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate the application of intelligent automation in the global seafood processing industry.
The partnership combines PROCEON’s deep domain expertise and industry network with QING’s proven See-Think-Act (STAQ) platform, integrating AI-driven vision, robotics, and data intelligence, to deliver reliable and scalable automation solutions tailored to seafood processing.
The seafood industry is at a critical inflection point. Labour shortages, increasing quality requirements, and growing pressure on yield and efficiency are forcing processors to rethink traditional operations. While automation has transformed other food sectors, seafood remains one of the most complex and least automated.
This partnership is designed to change that.
By combining complementary strengths, PROCEON and QING aim to bring a new generation of automation solutions to the market:
Together, the companies will focus on developing and deploying solutions for key applications such as quality grading, sorting, and robotic handling of delicate seafood products, replacing subjective manual processes with consistent, data-driven automation.
Unlike many early-stage automation efforts in seafood, this partnership builds on proven technology already operating in other food sectors, adapted and optimized for the unique challenges of seafood processing. This enables faster deployment, reduced risk, and a clear path toward scalable implementation.
The collaboration will initially focus on selected regions where both parties see strong potential for rapid impact, working closely with leading seafood processors to validate use cases through pilot projects and establish a foundation for broader commercial rollout.
“What drew us to QING is simple, they have already proven their technology works in real food processing environments, and they can move fast into new segments. In an industry where pilots often drag on for years, QING's ability to go from concept to deployment in weeks is a genuine competitive advantage. They have thought AI all the way. Combine that with PROCEON deep knowledge of seafood processing technology and we have everything we need to bring meaningful and transformational solution to market quickly.”
— Trausti Árnason, CEO, PROCEON
“Successful partnerships are built on shared vision and aligned ambition. From the very beginning, it was clear that PROCEON and QING approach this industry with the same mindset, pragmatic, ambitious, and focused on delivering real impact. By combining PROCEON’s deep seafood expertise with our experience in AI and robotics integration through STAQ, we believe we can bring something genuinely new to the market. Not just technology, but solutions that directly address the real challenges processors are facing today, and do so in a way that is scalable and ready for deployment.”
— Bram de Vrught, CEO, QING Food Automation
The partnership marks a significant step toward enabling seafood processors to transition from labour-intensive operations to intelligent, flexible, and data-driven production systems, improving performance today while building resilience for the future.
